Ages: 3-7 years old
The Kissing Hand is a sweet story about a young raccoon struggling with leaving his mom’s side.
Chester Raccoon is about to start school for the first time, but doesn’t want to leave his mother. So Mrs. Raccoon shares a family tradition with Chester called “the kissing hand.” Mrs. Raccoon kisses the palm of Chester’s hand and tells him to press his hand into his cheek anytime he feels lonely.
Mrs. Raccoon explains that her kiss will stay on his hand, even if he washes them, and will always be there for him. Chester kisses his mom’s hand so she will have a kissing hand as well. Chester happily goes of to school while his mom waits for him at home.
This book is recommended for kids struggling with transitions into school or with separations from parents. Beautiful and calm illustrations make this a very soothing book. The cute raccoons help tell a story about how hard it can be for little ones to leave their parents even just for a little while.
